Coupon Crash Course pt 1

Are you new to couponing and seriously confused by all of the different acronyms?


$/#: Dollar amount saved /per number of items Ex: $5/2 Means if you by 2 of the specified items you save $5.00

$/$: Dollar amount saved when you spend specified amount. Ex; $5/$25 means save $5 when you spend $25

B1G1 or BOGO or B2G1: Buy 1 Get 1 free or Buy 2 Get 1 this has multiple combinations of numbers

Blinkie: A coupon that prints out at a machine in the store. They are located by the product associated with that particular coupon.

CAT: Catalina. These coupons print from a small printer next to the receipt printer. They are manufacturer and store coupons to be used on a future purchase. Remember to get your Catalina's sometimes they take a second to print or don't print. Just ask if you don't get a Catalina you are expecting.

Coupon Insert or Insert: The coupon packets found in the Sunday newspaper

SS or S: Smart Source

RP: Red Plumb

PG or P&G: Proctor and Gamble

Double Coupon: Coupons offered by specific stores that will match the value of your manufacture coupon. Albertson's will match up to a $1 coupon and will allow up to 3 per transaction. These are found in the Sunday newspaper and weekly ads.


Internet Printable or IP: A coupon that can be printed online.

IVC: Instant Value Coupon. These are found at Walgreens in their weekly ads.

MFR: Manufacturer

OOP: The amount you will pay out of pocket when coupons, rebates and gift cards are figured in.

OYNO or OYNP: On your next order or purchase. This is where you receive a coupon for a specific amount off your next purchase. For example Albertson’s will run Catalina’s where you spend $25.00 and receive a Catalina for $10.00 off your next purchase

Peelie: Coupons found on items in the store.

Rain check: A paper you can ask for when an item is on sale but out of stock so that you may return at a later time and receive that item for the sale price even thought it may not be on sale still. They usually expire 14-30 days after they are written.

Register Rewards or RR: These are only at Walgreens. They are Catalina's that print for a specific dollar amount off on your next purchase.

Rolling: When you receive a Catalina for an amount off your next purchase you can use the Catalina to purchase another item that prints a Catalina. This is called rolling. For example you purchase 3 Cans of Cream of chicken receive $1 off your next purchase. You then use the $1.00 off Catalina and purchase 3 more Cream of Chicken and receive another $1.00 off Catalina. This can be used to by a different item that prints a Catalina as well. This scenario cannot be used to roll Register Rewards at Walgreens


SCR: Single Check Rebate offered by Rite Aid. It is called Single Check because you will only be sent 1 rebate check per month. Always wait until the end of the month when you have entered all of your receipts to request

your check. Once you request your check you will not be eligible for any other rebates that month.


Stacking: combining a manufacture coupon with a store coupon. For example Target coupons or Walgreen Instant Value Coupons


Tear Pad: Coupons pads found inside the store near specified item.
